Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t the only game getting a delay. Skydance Games has announced that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is shifting its release window beyond early 2026. Last year, the game received a story trailer showcasing Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, which ended with a 2025 launch window. It was then revealed that the game would aim for an early 2026 launch, but that’s no longer the case.
In a statement shared on social media, Skydance Games said the reason behind the delay is to ensure it meets the level of quality that the team, players, and fans expect. It’s a pretty generic statement we’ve heard multiple times from many other development teams, as delays become more common. Unfortunately, a new release window wasn’t announced, only that it will be sometime beyond early 2026.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set during World War II and centers on Captain America and Black Panther teaming up to take down Hydra. Joining them are Gabriel Jones, a member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, leader of the Wakandan Sky Network. It’s the first game from Skydance New Media, a division of Skydance Media led by Amy Hennig of Naughty Dog fame and Julian Beak, a former EA employee who has contributed to projects such as Battlefield, Need for Speed, and Star Wars.
We haven’t heard much about Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra since the 2024 trailer, but hopefully Hennig and her team can deliver. For now, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and Marvel’s Wolverine are the 2026 releases for the Marvel brand. Speaking broadly, Marvel games have been successful, including the latest Marvel Rivals and Marvel’s Spider-Man games. We also have Marvel’s Deadpool VR arriving on November 18, 2025, but that will be exclusive to the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S VR devices.
