Originally launched in October 2023, Lords of the Fallen has received over 50 free updates and today, Version 2.0 is available. Dubbed the definitive edition of the dark fantasy action RPG, Lords of the Fallen Version 2.0 adds several major features, including Shared Progression Co-op, a Free Friend’s Pass, a dedicated jump button, an enhanced character creator, refined combat and movement, and more. The Shared Progression Co-op is an interesting addition, especially with the Free Friend’s Pass. This means players can join a fellow lampbearer through matchmaking or with a friend, with both players now receiving credit for all mainline progress. Players can also revive one another, collect 100 percent vigor, and loot in all online sessions.
The Free Friend’s Pass is identical to what Hazelight Games does with its titles, like Split Fiction. Basically, if one person owns the game, they are able to invite a friend to join them for free. That friend, without owning the full game, can play the entire adventure across all platforms with the person who invites them. They also get single player access to the character creator and full tutorial area.
Version 2.0 also builds on version 1.7’s improvements as the team continues working to deliver more responsive combat and movement systems. Combat audio has also been upgraded, and overall movement should feel smoother now. The enhanced combat mechanics include improved weapon responsiveness, upgraded lock-on with Grievous Strike prompts, and smoother evasions. Soulflay is also quicker now, for more effective combat.
Other changes in version 2.0 include a new Lamp Guidance mechanic, which reveals the path to the next Vestige. The character creator has also been overhauled with improved facial options, textures, and body shapes. A dedicated jump button has also been added, so players can now jump anytime, anywhere, without sprinting. Returning players should also notice cleaner menus and smoother transitions in the overhauled UI. Finally, the tutorial has been revamped with user-friendly prompts for better onboarding, while an all-new guidebook has been added so players can revisit prompts at any time.
Lords of the Fallen had a rough initial release on Steam, but it’s been great to see developer CI Games continue improving the title. While it sits on Steam with a Mixed rating with over 24,000 user reviews, recent reviews at the time of publishing have been Mostly Positive.
