While there is a lot of attention on the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, mainly because Microsoft and ASUS haven’t officially announced a price yet, there are other companies readying their AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme offerings. We’ve already seen the MSI Claw A8, which has given us a good idea of the Z2 Extreme’s performance, and now the Lenovo Legion Go 2 has made its debut. The successor to the Lenovo Legion Go was shown as a prototype at CES 2025, but at the time, we mainly only knew about the Z2 Extreme.

Now, Lenovo has officially debuted its newest handheld console, destined for shelves sometime in October 2025. Preorders are available at Best Buy in two configurations: the standard AMD Ryzen Z2 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for $1,099.99, and the more powerful Z2 Extreme with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for $1,349.99. That’s not where it tops out, though, as Lenovo will be offering an option with 2TB of storage for $1,479.99. The standard Ryzen Z2 model will also have a 32GB RAM configuration for $1,199.99.

If the price seems high to you, you’re not the only one. The Lenovo Legion Go 2, however, comes with an OLED display with variable refresh rate support ranging from 30Hz to 144Hz, which is likely why it carries a premium price. So for all those wondering why Nintendo didn’t launch the Switch 2 with an OLED display featuring variable refresh rate, this is probably why. The 8.8-inch display also has HDR TrueBlack 1000 certification and boasts a 1920 x 1200 resolution.

The detachable Legion TrueStrike controllers remain a unique selling point for the Lenovo Legion Go 2, with the right controller able to function as a vertical mouse. It will be powered by Windows 11 and will hopefully get the slimmed-down version of the operating system that’s debuting on the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. As for battery, it surprisingly uses a 74Whr unit. It’ll be interesting to see how well it lasts with that variable refresh rate display.

As for ports, Lenovo packed the Legion Go 2 with pretty much everything gamers demand. There are a 3.5mm audio jack, two USB Type-C ports with USB 4.0 and DisplayPort 2.0 support, and a microSD card reader that supports up to 2TB for expanded storage.

Again, the device is up for preorder at Best Buy with other configurations heading to the Lenovo website soon. Gamers looking for their next handheld PC experience will have several options come October, since both the Legion Go 2 and ROG Xbox Ally handhelds are hitting shelves next month.
