League of Legends has announced “that a portion of” North American account information has been compromised. According to PVP.net, usernames, email addresses, salted password hashes, and some first and last names were accessed in the breach. The company is also investigating approximately 120,000 transactions from 2011 where hashed and salted credit card numbers were accessed. The investigation is ongoing, but Riot Games will be contacting all the League of Legends players affected by the hack.
Players will be required to change their passwords when they attempt to log into the game and Riot has announced that it’s working on additional security measures including email verification and two-factor authentication.
