Last night at the Reaper of Souls launch party in Los Angeles, Josh Mosquiera and Wyatt Cheng confirmed that seasons with a ladder-like system along with tiered rifts are coming in a future content patch. Instead of launching a feature simply called ladders, the content will be known as Seasons which will include a ladder-like aspect to them, according to Mosquiera. The team is still working on developing the system, but the idea is that players will start with an all-new character each season with specific ladders with possibly Seasons-only Legendaries.
The other major feature heading to patch 2.1 includes tiered rifts as they’re being called internally at the moment. Essentially players will do increasingly harder rifts once they clear their Nephalem Rift. After beating the boss of the original Nephalem Rift, there will be a chance to get a Greater Rift token, which will open up another Rift that has increased difficulty. This continues on essentially endlessly, and a leaderboard will be implemented to track people’s progress based on completion time and the highest tiered rift they were able to achieve.
We’re loving the sound of the tiered rifts idea along with leaderboards, since leaderboard competitions was one of the five things we’d love to see in Reaper of Souls.
