In 2021, Hot Wheels Unleashed was a surprising release that received an overall positive reception from gamers. And just as the original seemed to come out of nowhere, its sequel has been announced and it will be released on October 19, 2023. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged will feature over 130 vehicles, including new additions such as motorcycles and ATVs. The game also adds three new categories to distinguish their performance, and players will be able to customize their driving style using Skill Points to unlock specific advantages.
The sequel will offer five different settings, each with unique terrains that will affect the vehicle’s performance. The goal is to give players a more dynamic and immersive racing experience compared to the first game. Adding to the unpredictability, vehicles will interact with numerous objects both on and off the track, as showcased in the announcement trailer below.
One new mechanic that is being introduced in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged is the lateral dash and jumps. These join the drifting and boost mechanics to offer tons of racing fun in the new Campaign that features a storyline around four original characters. Other game modes include racing against time and rivals, high-speed drifting, and even crashing into opponents to score points. Split-screen mode will offer side-by-side duels for couch multiplayer. The game will also support cross-platform races with cross-play, although cross-play won’t be available on the Nintendo Switch.
Developer and publisher Milestone also said that a refined track builder with new special modules and features will join the game, expanding on the variety of tracks players can create. The livery editor will also allow players to create original designs, made unique by the new sticker editor.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged will release on October 19 and is heading to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
