For decades, video game adaptations to movies or television series seemed forever stuck in mediocrity. Recently, however, we’ve had a string of successes including Arcane, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Last of Us, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Fallout, and Halo. Just kidding about Halo; it’s still not very good. HBO’s The Last of Us was a standout, getting nominated for 24 Emmys last year and taking home eight. Fans of the game are eagerly waiting to see how the show will adapt The Last of Us Part II, and today, we get our official first look.

HBO released two images from the second season of The Last of Us during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation. Those who have played The Last of Us Part II will likely recognize the scenes featuring Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see Kaitlyn Dever in the role of Abby.

The second season will see the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast members include the aforementioned Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. HBO also announced Catherine O’Hara as a guest star. As expected, The Last of Us will continue to be written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

The Last of Us Season 2 is set to debut sometime in 2025 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. Expect plenty of leaked images from the set in the coming months.
