Given the popularity of HBO’s The Last of Us, we shouldn’t be all that surprised it received a few Emmy nominations. But 24 nominations is a number we didn’t expect. Earlier today, nominations for the 2023 Emmy Awards were announced and The Last of Us didn’t even lead the way for HBO series, since that honor went to Succession with 27 nominations. Nonetheless, a video game adaptation getting 24 Emmy nominations is very noteworthy and should be celebrated by the industry. This is what happens when a show is lovingly crafted to be faithful to the source material, and involves people who care about the property. I’m looking at you, Halo and The Witcher series.
Congratulations to the cast and crew for doing such a fantastic job adapting the best game I’ve ever played into a television series.
