To the surprise of no one—well, maybe /r/thelastofus2—HBO has renewed The Last of Us for a third season. The news comes just as the debut of its second season is around the corner on April 13 at 9:00 PM Eastern and Pacific. For those who have been following the HBO series, it has been understood that the events of the second game, The Last of Us Part II, would span two seasons. The truth is, it was likely never really in doubt that the show would get renewed for a third season so it could conclude the game’s story.
The Last of Us Season 2 will span seven episodes and take place five years after the events of the first season. Both Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) now live in Jackson, and throughout the season, we’ll see the two of them drawn into conflict with each other and an even more dangerous world. Along with Pascal and Ramsey reprising their roles, Gabriel Luna will return as Tommy, along with Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast members include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in season 2.
The Last of Us Season 2 currently sits on Rotten Tomatoes with a 92% rating from 51 reviews.
