The popularity of Vampire Survivors helped create an entirely new genre, and one of our favorite entries in it is Halls of Torment. We first spent time with the game in July 2023 during Early Access, and it quickly became one of my favorite games of 2023 and a favorite to play on Steam Deck. The survivor-like title officially exited Early Access in September 2024. In my review, I praised it as a fantastic pick-up-and-play game with significant replayability and unlocks for its price point. We also had the opportunity to interview the team at Chasing Carrots to learn more about the game’s development process.

Now, Halls of Torment has announced its first major DLC, The Boglands. Along with new heroes, The Boglands adds new mechanics and challenges, starting with a stage filled with insects, spirits, and ancient walking trees. Players will have to trudge through a swamp that slows movement, and time won’t be the enemy; survival will.

Most players will be more excited to hear about the two new heroes, The Crone and The Alchemist. The former harnesses plant life to ensnare enemies and spread Decay, an armor-cracking curse. Meanwhile, the latter throws mixtures imbued with elemental power. With over 50 new quests, The Boglands will likely offer dozens of hours of entertainment, bolstered by three new abilities and a dozen new items. The DLC also brings six new artifacts, more traits, and more blessings for players to uncover.

Chasing Carrots also has free content on the way for all players: the Bardcore update, which adds The Bard as a playable character, new abilities, music tracks, and more. Release dates for the Bardcore update and for Halls of Torment’s PlayStation and Xbox versions will be announced soon. We’ll also have to wait for a date for The Boglands DLC, though it’s planned for Q4 2025 according to its Steam page.
