Developer 11 bit studios has revealed Breach of Trust, the second expansion for its society survival city-builder Frostpunk 2, arriving June 23 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC. It centers on a new scenario set in New Edinburgh, a city in turmoil from within as a nearby volcano threatens everything around it. Power falls to you as the First Citizen.
As First Citizen, you’re subject to periodic Votes of Trust, and the central conflict revolves around Aurora, a colony on a frozen lake that turns out to be the only viable safe haven for the city’s people. The expansion frames the decision as a choice between trust or force, and unity or control. How you handle relations with the independent colony is up to you, whether through peaceful trade, forceful extortion, or total conquest.
On the gameplay side, Breach of Trust adds five communities and factions, each with its own background and ideology, along with new environmental hazards in the form of the Tremors and Volcano Night mechanics. There are two new scenario maps, five new buildings and hubs, new laws, and a batch of new narrative events to go with the custom mechanics built for the scenario.
Breach of Trust is part of the post-launch plan 11 bit studios laid out back in 2024, when it codenamed its planned Frostpunk 2 DLCs Spectrum and Aurora. The colony at the center of this expansion shares one of those names.
