Some believed this would be announced at gamescom ONL, but that wasn’t the case, as Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy XVI is launching on PC this September 17. It will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store, and just like the PlayStation 5 launch, a free demo is now available. What’s more surprising is that the base game has a $49.99 price tag, while the complete edition, which includes all of the paid DLC, is $69.99. Considering Square Enix’s previous track record, it’s good to see the base game being discounted.
In my Final Fantasy XVI review, I praised the game for having some of the highest highs I’ve ever experienced in a video game, but it also has some of the lowest lows. Those who have played Creative Business Unit III’s Final Fantasy XIV will find much of the gameplay loop familiar, but with a more robust action combat system. You can also read my reviews of the Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide DLCs to help you decide whether you want to purchase the complete edition.
