This year, Final Fantasy IX is celebrating its 25th anniversary and to commemorate the occasion, Square Enix has launched a separate website dedicated to the celebration. Originally launched on July 7, 2000, Final Fantasy IX’s 25th anniversary will bring various projects, Square Enix said, including merchandise and collaborations. The game has sold over 8.9 million units worldwide and there have been rumors of a remake and an animated series. However, neither has been confirmed by Square Enix, but fans are still hoping we’ll hear something this summer about these rumors.
For now, the website has launched with a few announcements, including collaborations with Zoff for special edition eyeglasses, complete with a special cleaning cloth and case. Look for those to go live in early July on Zoff’s website. On July 2, an original picture book centered around Vivi shortly before the events of Final Fantasy IX will launch. Google translates the title as Final Fantasy IX Picture Book: Vivi and Grandpa on the Day of Departure, and you can find more information about it here.
Music lovers will be happy to hear there is going to be a Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary Vinyl called Timeless Tales launching on July 9, 2025. It will include a newly recorded version of the iconic Melodies of Life, while the artwork comes from Toshiyuki Itahana. Lastly, a lineup of merchandise has been revealed, including Zidane and Garnet figurines, a Garnet-inspired silver necklace with her pendant, and plush toys for the game’s cast of characters.
