In a sea of first- and third-person shooters, live service games, and formulaic soulslike adventures, the debut of Felt That: Boxing almost seems like it comes from another universe. The first game from today’s event to really catch my attention, Felt That: Boxing, is a comedic boxing game set in a world of charming furry puppets. Players will take on the role of Ezra “Fuzz-E” Wright as he looks to box his way through the Tournament of a Million Punches in order to save an orphanage. I love seeing games like this, because creativity and fun should always be the focus of games, and everything about Felt That: Boxing seems to focus on those two aspects.
The game blends tactile, physics-driven combat with responsive controls for a skill-based brawling experience. I couldn’t help but think back to Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! and I’m probably not the only one. There will even be power-ups and props, like pie toss, anvil drop, or even a unicycle ride available mid-match. From developer Sans Strings Studio, Felt That: Boxing will have an eight- to twelve-hour story mode, trainer challenges, and plenty of unlockables.
No word yet on when the game will be released, but it’s one I’m definitely keeping my eye on. For me, it’s currently the star of Summer Game Fest, but we still have over an hour left in the show.
