As expected, Fallout 4 is breaking records with Bethesda shipping approximately 12-million units worldwide to meet day one demand. It’s worth noting that 12 million is how many units were shipped to retailers, and while it does represent sales of over $750 million, it doesn’t take into account actual sell-through figures. Regardless, it’s safe to say that Fallout 4 is already an overwhelming success for Bethesda and ZeniMax. In addition, the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition sold out within hours of its announced availability.
Some major retailers have noted that Fallout 4 is the most pre-ordered game of the year while the Pip-Boy Edition was the fastest-selling collector’s edition of any game in history at leading retailers. Bethesda was also informed by retailers that launch day sales were the largest of any game released this year.

Although digital sales numbers weren’t reported, Bethesda announced that those too are breaking records. On Steam, the game became the number one game played, surpassing the previous record for concurrent play with over 470,000 players. The game’s companion app, Fallout Pip-Boy, quickly became the number one game on the iTunes App Store and according to Twitch, Fallout 4 set the record as the most viewed game launch of all 2015 games.
“We’re extremely proud of Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios, and his experienced team of developers for their talent and dedication in creating this extraordinary game,” said Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks. “Fallout 4 is a masterpiece in game development and storytelling, providing fans hundreds of hours of fun as they explore and are challenged by this fascinating, beautifully crafted world.”
