Electronic Arts has announced an all-new studio, Cliffhanger Games, and it is working on a single-player, third-person Black Panther game in collaboration with Marvel Games. “Our mission is to build an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther,” EA said in a press release. The team at Cliffhanger Games, led by Kevin Stephens from Monolith Productions, is composed of talent and leaders from Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor, as well as veterans from Halo Infinite, God of War, Call of Duty, and more.
Cliffhanger Games and EA only released the above image for the upcoming game, which suggests it’s still in very early stages of development. It will, however, be an original story and a third-person game. “We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich Super Hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do,” said Stephens.
EA’s Black Panther is just one of numerous Marvel games currently in development. Spider-Man 2 is set to release this October, and developer Insomniac is also working on a Wolverine title. Another EA studio, Motive, is working on an Iron Man game. It has also been announced that Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media are working on a Marvel project that was announced in October 2021.
