Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has sold over two million units worldwide, including digital downloads. The remake of the 1988 classic RPG launched on November 14 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC, featuring the HD-2D graphic style that blends pixel art and 3D graphics. Although it’s called a remake, the game retains turn-based command battles but adds new elements, including voiced event scenes, orchestral music, a new Monster Wrangler vocation, the Monster Arena feature, and new story episodes featuring Ortega.

Slight changes have been made to the story to better align with the events of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, which is slated for release next year. Dragon Quest III is chronologically the first in the Erdrick Trilogy, which explains why it is available ahead of next year’s compilation featuring Dragon Quest I and II.
