Diablo IV is adding an all-new class with the Vessel of Hatred expansion called Spiritborn. Today, the developers held a broadcast sharing details on the class, which looks to be a mix of Monk and Witch Doctor from Diablo III. The Spiritborn class is defined by Spirit Guardians, which represent the connection between humans and the natural world they live in. The class can call upon four Spirit Guardians in battle: Jaguar (Rezoka), Gorilla (Wumba), Eagle (Kwatli), and Centipede (Balazan). It also introduces a new Skill Tag called Incarnate. Once equipped, the Spiritborn gains a passive bonus, embodying the traits of the Guardian associated with the Incarnate Skill. Players can activate this skill to take on the Guardian’s full strength.

Blizzard detailed many of the Spiritborn’s skills, as well as the ultimate skill for each Spirit Guardian during today’s presentation. On paper, it appears to be very versatile and will cater to a variety of different playstyles. Each Spirit Guardian also has its own damage type, with Jaguar dealing Fire damage, Gorilla dealing Physical damage, Eagle dealing Lightning damage, and Centipede dealing Poison damage. Of course, Legendaries and Uniques will further alter mechanics, and Blizzard provided a bit of a preview on what to look forward to in those regards.

The full stream is about an hour long and details the backstory of the Spiritborn, along with art and design, before diving into gameplay and showcasing each of the Spirit Guardians. It wraps up with a preview of some of the new Legendaries and Uniques for the class before answering a few questions. Watch the entire stream below, and you can learn more about the class on the official page.

I was very disappointed with Diablo IV at release, but the game has improved significantly since then. I was very happy to spend dozens of hours in the most recent season and am excited to see how the game continues to evolve with the release of the expansion in October.
