Several months have passed since rumors of Days Gone Remastered surfaced on the internet, but now it is official. Making an appearance at today’s State of Play, Days Gone Remastered launches onto PlayStation 5 on April 25, 2025. The project is a collaboration between the original developer Bend Studio and Climax Studios and will serve as the definitive way to play Days Gone. For those unfamiliar with the title, it tells the story of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John as he tries to survive in a brutal open world filled with feral creatures known as Freakers. It’s basically an open-world zombie game with a biker twist and a half-decent story.

The remastered version features improved graphical fidelity, increased foliage draw distance, improved shadow and lighting quality, support for Tempest 3D Audio, VRR, and additional enhancements. Players can choose between Quality mode for increased resolution or Performance mode for improved framerates. The experience is even better on the PlayStation 5 Pro. The game also receives full support for the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The team has also added new accessibility features, including a High Contrast mode, Game Speed adjustments, UI Narration, Collectible Audio Cues, Controller Remapping, Field of View slider, and more.

More excitingly, there are new gameplay modes available for returning players. The first is Horde Assault, which is essentially a survival arcade mode and arguably the best part of Days Gone. Horde Assault challenges players to achieve a high score while surviving as long as possible against larger horde sizes and numerous other enemies. The mode will have players fighting their way through familiar regions as they try to level up to earn in-mode rewards, including never-before-playable characters, new patch cosmetics, and unique Injectors that greatly impact gameplay.

The other new mode is a Permadeath mode, which sounds quite challenging after having completed Days Gone. The game is not easy by any means, and attempting to finish the story in one single playthrough without dying sounds like the ultimate challenge for some players. Those who manage to complete the challenge will be rewarded with a special graphic that records their completion time, along with unique stats such as how many Freakers were killed during the playthrough. Naturally, there is also a new PlayStation Trophy as a reward.

If neither of these new gameplay modes appeals to you, there is also the Speedrun mode where players must play through the story as quickly as possible. Again, a special endgame graphic is awarded upon completion so players can share and compare their best times in the game. Lastly, to fully appreciate all of the game’s visual upgrades, the team also improved the photo mode in Days Gone. The enhanced version adds a time-of-day setting, a three-point lighting system, and new logo options.

Days Gone Remastered will be available exclusively as a digital title for $49.99. Those who already own the PlayStation 4 version can upgrade for $10. Days Gone owners on PC will receive all the new content and features on the same date, April 25, but it will come in the form of the Broken Road DLC for $10.
