A co-op platformer starring two penguins, Bread & Fred, is heading to PC on May 23, 2023. Developed by SandCastles Studio and published by Apogee Entertainment, Bread & Fred will either strengthen your relationship with your co-op partner, or you may never speak to them ever again. In the game, two players must cooperate and time their jumps precisely as they try to get to the peak of a snowy mountain. It’s not as easy as it sounds, since the two penguins are tethered to one another — so if one player falls, they both fall. It also means players can make good use of momentum to swing and propel one another. Bread & Fred does have a single player mode, where the player will strap their rope to Jeff — a rock — and use that instead.

For competitors, Bread & Fred does include a speedrun mode so duos can compete and see who the best climbing penguins are in the world. If you’re interested in Bread & Fred, the game currently has a demo that actually reached one-million downloads. The game will cost $14.99 at release and will be available on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. It’s like Jump King, but co-op!

“A great platformer will always challenge players to beat their previous record over and over until they achieve the best time possible,” said Scott Miller, CCO and Founder of Apogee Entertainment. “Bread & Fred took that model and incorporated a co-op aspect creating a one-of-a-kind platforming experience. Over 1 million fans of the genre have had a blast with the demo, generating overwhelmingly positive feedback and hilarious hijinks all over the internet.”
