It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played, and now it’s confirmed that over five million copies of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have been sold worldwide. That figure is even more impressive considering it’s available on Game Pass. Developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive also shared that the game’s soundtrack has over 333 million streams across digital platforms since its release. It spent over 10 weeks at number one on the Billboard Classical and Classical Crossover album charts during that timeframe, and it also reached the top spot on the iTunes Top 100 Albums chart in nine countries.
As a thank you to the community, Sandfall Interactive is currently working on a major new update that will include several additions. Players can look forward to a new playable environment with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover, as well as challenging boss battles for late-game players. Of course, our expeditioners will also be getting new costumes. The game is also being localized into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian, bringing support to 19 languages. These are just the features the team is willing to share, and it promises there are more surprises in store for the update.
The major game update is planned for a free release on all platforms, though no release date or window was announced. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In my review, I said the game is the reason I play and love video games, a testament to what passionate gamers can create when they’re not burdened by corporate greed.
“The response to our game has been nothing short of incredible,” says Guillaume Broche, Creative Director of Expedition 33 at Sandfall Interactive. “We spent years working on our dream project, and to know it has resonated with fans around the world in such a powerful way is both wonderful and overwhelming. We’re so grateful to our fans for their love of the world we created, for sharing their own fan art and music covers, for wearing their best Baguette cosplays to conventions, and for being incredibly supportive of our game. We hope the update we’re working on will act as a ‘thank you’ to those fans for their support – please be patient while our team work hard on bringing you something worth the wait.”
