The co-founder of GOG, Michał Kiciński, has acquired GOG from CD Projekt. Michał Kiciński, who is also one of the co-founders of CD Projekt, decided to purchase GOG to continue the company’s mission of no lock-in, no forced platforms, sense of ownership. As for CD Projekt, selling GOG fits the company’s long-term strategy, allowing it to focus on creating RPGs and providing fans with other forms of entertainment. GOG will continue operating independently and will remain focused on building a platform that’s ethical, non-predatory, and made to last. It will continue with its mission to Make Games Live Forever.
If you use GOG or purchase games from it, nothing will change as a result of this acquisition. DRM-free remains central to GOG, and if you’re a GOG Patron or have donated to support the Preservation Program, those funds stay within GOG. The company also emphasized that it is financially stable and had a very encouraging year. You can learn more about the acquisition in GOG’s official blog post.
