In an interview with Kotaku, Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ executive producer Mark Rubin expressed that the PC version of the game will look better graphically than the versions heading to the next-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Now for those that have been gaming on PCs for years, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering current high-end gaming PCs can have much better hardware than what Sony and Microsoft are packing in their next-generation consoles. But the reason behind it looking better graphically isn’t just hardware limitations, but rather the developer will actually be using higher-resolution assets to develop the PC variant.
Older versions of Call of Duty from Infinity Ward for the PC used the same graphics assets as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games, but that won’t be the case for the newest addition to the franchise. According to Rubin, “They’re actually using an even higher version in many cases than the next-gen consoles, from a texture standpoint.”
As we mentioned before, this isn’t exactly breaking news for those that have played cross-platform games on the PC. But what is unusual is the fact that a developer is willing to take the time and money to invest into developing a better looking game for the PC, rather than simply just porting over existing development assets to another platform.
