The team at Gearbox Software has confirmed that Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed via the game’s official social media accounts. For some, this news isn’t very surprising, considering how the initial launch of Borderlands 4 on PC has been marred by performance issues. Those who saw Borderlands 4 running on Switch 2 at Gamescom 2025 reported that performance wasn’t great, which is likely a reason for the delay.

According to the message posted on social media, the game needs additional time for development and polish to deliver the best possible experience for fans. The additional time will also allow the team to work on cross saves. For now, Gearbox doesn’t have a new release date to announce, but it promises to share updated timing once it has fully adjusted its plans.

As a result, all digital preorders will be canceled automatically starting on September 26. Customers can also initiate that process themselves now if they wish.

We have been enjoying Borderlands 4 quite a bit since its launch, but we recognize that there are major performance issues on PC. In my review, I praised the amount of content in Borderlands 4 compared with previous entries in the franchise and summarized the game as crazy fun with a mix of extremely frustrating moments.
