One of our most anticipated games of the year, Borderlands 4, now has a confirmed release date. During today’s State of Play, Gearbox Entertainment announced Borderlands 4 launches on September 23, 2025. While we did get a new trailer today, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for more information when a deep dive State of Play on the title airs this spring. The team said that Borderlands 4 is its most ambitious game to date, so expect more action, more enemies, and, most importantly, more loot. Players can also expect new gameplay mechanics, including double-jumping, gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and more.

Announced in August 2023, Borderlands 4 is the next mainline entry in the long-running franchise that includes several spinoffs. Borderlands 3 was largely a disappointment for us, mainly due to its writing, characters, and overall storyline, so we’re hoping Borderlands 4 is a return to form that captures the humor from Borderlands 2. The recent Borderlands movie didn’t help the franchise either, as it was largely a disappointment for its fans and something I wish I had never seen.
