Update: August 20, 2024 – Black Myth: Wukong has now reached a peak concurrent player count of 2,223,179, making it the second highest on Steam’s all-time list, surpassing Palworld. The original story is below.

A little over an hour after its launch, Black Myth: Wukong eclipsed the one-million concurrent player mark and, at the time of publishing, reached a peak of 1,289,551, according to Steam’s official charts. That number puts it above Cyberpunk 2077’s concurrent record, which was 1,054,388, and within striking distance of Dota 2’s 1,295,114. Currently, Black Myth: Wukong is in sixth place overall for all-time concurrent players.

The game’s quick success on PC may come as a surprise to some, considering it’s sitting at an 82 on Metacritic and an 81 on OpenCritic. It is, however, further proof that challenging action RPGs have a massive player base, thanks in large part to the success of Elden Ring.
