Today, November 7, is N7 Day, an annual celebration of the Mass Effect franchise. Some years, this means exciting news for Mass Effect fans. In other years, like 2025, it leaves us all a bit disappointed. With all the recent news about EA, including its massive buyout to go private, and layoffs at BioWare, Mass Effect fans have been rightfully concerned about the future of the series.

In his annual post, Mike Gamble, executive producer for Mass Effect, reiterated that the next Mass Effect game is in development, and both EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in the universe. It’s really a statement meant to douse the flames of the rumors, but most fans won’t be convinced until they see anything about the next Mass Effect game. We’re all hoping it won’t be like Dragon Age, in which the future of the franchise is uncertain because of how Dragon Age: The Veilguard performed.

Gamble said that the team at BioWare is currently heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect, and that, when they’re ready, it’ll be a lot of fun to show. He also announced that the TV series, developed in collaboration with Amazon, will be a new story set after the original trilogy. This likely means we won’t be seeing anyone playing the role of Shepard, but I’m sure we’ll hear about them in one way, shape, or form. It definitely won’t retread Shepard’s story, though. As Gamble put it, it’s our story, after all.
