The collective teams at Battlefield Studios—Criterion Games, DICE, Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA), and Motive—have announced a new community development collaboration called Battlefield Labs. The goal of the program is to give players an opportunity to provide feedback and validate the future of Battlefield, having a direct impact on the next generation of Battlefield games. The team confirmed it’s now “entering a critical phase” of its development cycle where feedback will be extremely important to help determine what to prioritize, improve, and refine before release.
The hope is to connect the community with the developers of the game as they test concepts and experiences in the upcoming Battlefield title. Battlefield Labs will test nearly everything, but not everything that players will see is complete. In a way, it’s a closed alpha/beta experience with select community members who will be under NDA. They will essentially see pieces of an unfinished puzzle, giving the developers time to incorporate their feedback into the final product.
Battlefield Labs will start by testing the pillars of play, such as core combat and destruction. Then it will look at balance and feedback for the game’s weapons, vehicles, and gadgets. Those pieces will all contribute to the overall vision of maps, modes, and squad play. The collaboration will also involve players testing Conquest and Breakthrough modes to explore new ideas with the goal of finding deeper, more strategic gameplay.
If you’re interested in joining Battlefield Labs, you can sign up here. The program is looking for a variety of players, both veterans and new, who are interested in contributing to the future of the Battlefield series. Initially, invites will be limited to a few thousand people in Europe and North America. In the future, it’ll expand to invite tens of thousands more along with support for other territories.
