Developer Larian Studios has shared some interesting statistics following the first week of Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch. Along with some interesting infographics revealing the choices players have made thus far, Larian confirmed that 368 players managed to finish the game within the three-day launch weekend, which is remarkable considering how lengthy the game is. The developer also said that players played a combined 1225 years of Baldur’s Gate 3 during that launch weekend period.
The game quickly broke 700,000 concurrent players on Steam and went on to reach over 800,000, joining the list of the top 10 all-time most concurrent players. And according to Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, Baldur’s Gate 3 accounted for nearly 28% of total player time spent on Steam on August 6. The team at Larian Studios has been quick with hotfixes and will continue working towards its first serious patch. But first, here are some more statistics Larian Studios shared from the game’s opening weekend.
Not surprisingly, the vast majority of players — 93 percent — decided their first journey in Baldur’s Gate 3 would be with a custom character. Players have spent a combined 88 years in character creation. For those who did choose to play as an Origin character, Gale was the top choice. Larian Studios found that a bit funny, as Gale is also the seventh-highest cause among all causes of death. Perhaps even more entertaining, one NPC was shoved into a chasm for every player at the peak concurrent player count — roughly 815,000.
When it comes to race choices, Half-Elf was most popular, followed by Human, Elf, Dragonborn, Tiefling, Drow, Half-Orc, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling, and Githyanki. For class choices, Paladin was the top pick by a good margin over Sorcerer and Warlock, which rounded out the top three. The rest of the list in order of popularity is Rogue, Bard, Barbarian, Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, Monk, Druid, and Cleric. Gale was followed in popularity by Karlach, Astarion, Shadowheart, Wyll, and Leazel.
You can view the full infographic below, but some other interesting statistics include almost 100,000 players have been rejected by Astarion, Scratch has been petted over 750,000 times, and nearly 10 percent of players spent at least an hour in character creation.
