In a year that has been delivering hit after hit, it’s almost a surprise we’ll also have a FromSoftware title in 2023 after the company’s massive success with Elden Ring last year. We are now about a month away from the release of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, and today, FromSoftware gave us an extensive look at gameplay in a video that’s about 13.5 minutes long. Last week, we got a story trailer that gave us a glimpse of the player’s character, 621, who is a bioengineered human designed to pilot mechs under the guidance of a handler named Walter.
The game will feature giant stages that really show off how versatile the mechs are going to be. They may be large, but players will be able to navigate and maneuver around the environments with ease. There’s a certain sense of scope and scale here that really captures the fantasy of piloting a giant mech. We also learn that each core has four weapons that can be customized to cater to different playstyles. In the video, we see projectile weapons, missile launchers, energy swords, shields, and more. Players will also have the ability to customize the appearance of their mech.
Although Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is from the same developers as the Souls games and Elden Ring, don’t expect it to feature the same style of combat. At the same time, it’s also not a completely mindless button masher. Watch the extensive gameplay preview below to get a better idea of what FromSoftware is cooking up for next month.
