Nintendo recently hosted an Indie World Showcase, featuring a variety of indie games set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch later this year and in 2024. Lasting approximately 20 minutes, the presentation showcased several notable games, including Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition, Core Keeper, On Your Tail, Backpack Hero, Moonstone Island, among others.

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution – Announcement Trailer

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is an authentic, retro follow-up to the 2002 original. Slated for a 2024 release on the Nintendo Switch, this action-adventure platformer boasts multiple chapters, a variety of towns and labyrinths, six creature transformations, challenging bosses, and a four-player versus mode. The game introduces a new mechanic allowing Shantae to forge new paths by manipulating the foreground and background layers. This feature enables players to seamlessly move between layers, enhancing navigation and exploration.

Core Keeper – Announcement Trailer

After spending countless enjoyable hours with Core Keeper on PC, we’re excited about its upcoming release on the Nintendo Switch, where it seems like a perfect fit. Core Keeper allows up to eight players to collaborate in exploring a vast cavern teeming with creatures, ancient relics, and bountiful resources. This mining sandbox adventure game combines resource gathering, crop cultivation, base building, skill progression, and battles with ancient bosses. Look forward to Core Keeper’s launch on the Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2024.

On Your Tail – Announcement Trailer

On Your Tail, developed by Memorable Games and published by Humble Games, invites players into the role of Diana, a young detective. In this narrative-driven life simulation, players will explore the charming seaside village of Borgo Marina, tasked with uncovering the identity of a thief disturbing the peace of this tranquil town. Beyond solving mysteries, Diana can enjoy her seaside vacation, engaging in activities like beach visits, socializing with friends, arcade gaming, fishing, and more. Set for a 2024 release, On Your Tail will initially be a timed console exclusive on the Nintendo Switch.

Howl – Launch Trailer

Howl unfolds in a fairytale world beset by a sinister plague, uniquely spread through sound. In this turn-based, tactical folktale, rendered in a captivating “living ink” art style, a deaf prophet embarks on a quest to find a cure and restore peace to the realm. The game’s combat system uniquely enables players to predict enemy actions, allowing for strategic planning of up to six moves in advance. Howl is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch later today, along with a free demo for players to try.

The Star Named EOS – Announcement Trailer

The Star Named EOS, a first-person storytelling puzzle adventure game, unfolds in a stunningly hand-drawn panoramic world. Slated for release in spring 2024, The Star Named EOS revolves around Dei, a young photographer on a journey to follow his mother’s footsteps. In this game, players delve into the art of photography, capturing fleeting moments that define our existence. Through finding and collecting memory-laden items, players help Dei uncover the truth about his mother’s mysterious absence.

Backpack Hero – Launch Trailer

Backpack Hero, developed by Jaspel and Different Tales, presents a unique twist on the deck-building roguelike genre. In this game, players must strategically organize items in their backpack to maximize their potential and unleash their true power. Exploring the ancient Dungeon, players engage in turn-based battles against foes and encounter a diverse array of allies. Players can choose from one of five Backpack Heroes, each boasting unique powers, gameplay mechanics, and items. Using the loot gathered in the Dungeon, players can also build, expand, and personalize their hometown, Haversack Hill.

Blade Chimera – Announcement Trailer

Slated for release in spring 2024 as a timed console exclusive on the Nintendo Switch, Blade Chimera is a 2D action pixel art game where players wield the powerful Lumina Sword. The Lumina Sword, a demon transformed into a formidable weapon, possesses the unique ability to not only vanquish foes but also manipulate time. This power enables players to use the Lumina Sword to reconstruct previously destroyed structures like stairs, bridges, and platforms, opening up new areas in a dystopian future Osaka.

A Highland Song – Announcement Trailer

A Highland Song, developed by Inkle, invites players into a rich narrative-led 2.5D platforming experience, complete with rhythm-action elements, where they guide the character Moira. Players will run, jump, climb, and scramble across the picturesque peaks and valleys of the Scottish Highlands. With hundreds of routes available, each journey promises new shortcuts and hidden surprises. The goal is to reach the sea swiftly, but players must contend with challenging environmental factors such as rain, storms, and snow that seek to slow them down. A Highland Song is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on December 5.

Moonstone Island – Announcement Trailer

Set for a spring 2024 release as a timed console exclusive, Moonstone Island melds creature collecting, dungeon crawling, and deck building into a life simulation game featuring 100 procedurally generated sky islands. The game challenges players to become world-renowned alchemists by exploring the islands and collecting over 60 unique spirits through card-based combat. Beyond exploration and battles, players can also engage in diverse activities such as crafting items, farming, brewing potions, home decoration, befriending local villagers, and pursuing romantic relationships.

Death Trick: Double Blind – Announcement Trailer

Death Trick: Double Blind follows an unlikely duo on their quest to unravel the mysterious disappearance of star magician Hattie. Set within Morgan’s Traveling Circus, this non-linear detective visual novel allows players to alternately investigate Hattie’s disappearance through the perspectives of a fellow magician and an amnesiac detective. The game introduces an interesting twist: players have a limited number of actions, compelling them to strategically choose which leads to follow while meticulously scrutinizing evidence for contradictions. Death Trick: Scheduled to launch first on consoles with the Nintendo Switch next year, Death Trick: Double Blind will also offer a free demo available later today.

Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition – Preorder Trailer

If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience Outer Wilds, I highly recommend the open-world adventure game. Finally heading to the Nintendo Switch on December 7, Outer Wilds sets players off to explore multiple planets in search of clues, strange signals, and ancient alien texts to decipher. What makes the game unique, however, is that the entire solar system is trapped in a time loop and each planet changes dramatically during each loop. The Archaeologist Edition includes the Echoes of the Eye expansion.

Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist – Launch Trailer

Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist, a captivating painting adventure game, welcomes players to the delightful town of Phénix, where they can create and sell their own art masterpieces. The game becomes available on the Nintendo Switch later today, offering a unique artistic journey to its players.

Braid: Anniversary Edition – Announcement Trailer

Experience the acclaimed puzzle-platformer Braid in its remastered form with the upcoming Braid: Anniversary Edition. This Anniversary Edition boasts enhanced graphics, improved sound quality, and an added bonus of insightful developer commentary. Look forward to the launch of Braid: Anniversary Edition on April 30, 2024.
