The long-awaited Akuma is finally part of the Street Fighter 6 roster, joining the game today as the final Year 1 DLC character. Unfortunately, you will only have access to Akuma if you purchased the Year 1 Character Pass, which also includes Rashid, A.K.I., and Ed. Akuma can be found across all three game modes, allowing players to fight and train with him in Fighting Ground, visit him in his natural habitat in World Tour, and equip their avatar with his demonic move set in Battle Hub.
In addition to Akuma’s arrival, Street Fighter 6 also gets two new Battle Hub experiences, four new Outfit 3 designs, and an assortment of battle balance updates for all existing characters. One of the new Battle Hub experiences is a raid event called Giant Attack, where all players in each Battle Hub server fight a larger-than-life Akuma. Players can also test their skills against SiRN Akuma at special Battle Hub cabinets to earn exclusive rewards for defeating him.
Another addition to the game is that all 22 characters now have a new Recovery Drive Reversal move, which can be performed while getting up from a knockdown. Combined with this long list of battle changes, you can expect plenty of new strategies to emerge in the coming weeks.
Now that Year 1 of Street Fighter 6 has ended, it will be interesting to see what Capcom has in store for Year 2.
In our Street Fighter 6 review, we commended the game on its excellent single-player campaign. We believe Street Fighter 6 is to the series what Monster Hunter World was to the Monster Hunter franchise, welcoming many newcomers with its more approachable design.
