Mostly known for its controllers, 8BitDo has announced two retro mechanical keyboards inspired by the classic Nintendo and Famicom systems. These keyboards are compatible with Windows 10 or above, and Android 9.0 or above and can connect via Bluetooth, wireless 2.4G, or wired. They are TKL (tenkeyless) keyboards with an 87-key layout and use Kailh Box switches. Other features include N-key rollover, hot-swappable PCB, dye-sub PBT keycaps, and a classic power status LED with an independent control panel.
Also included with each unit are Dual Super Buttons, which are large, programmable keys that resemble the classic controller buttons. Both buttons can be mapped to anything instantly without using software. They may not be very useful and are likely more of a novelty item than anything else, but they do look cool! Also included with the keyboard and Dual Super Buttons is a USB cable, 2.4G adapter, instruction manual, and 8BitDo stickers. Internally, the keyboard is equipped with a 2000mAh lithium-ion battery, that’s good enough to provide about 200 hours of use time. It’ll take about four hours to fully charge it.
Both keyboards are currently available for preorder and will begin shipping on September 20, 2023. They are priced at $99.99.
