Developer sunset visitor 斜陽過客 and publisher Fellow Traveller have announced that 1000xRESIST is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition that launches this Thursday, August 20, complete with 4K visuals and an enhanced framerate and resolution. The studio is calling it the definitive way to experience the game on a Nintendo console.

I played 1000xRESIST on the original Switch, most of it during a 12-hour flight to Tokyo, and in my review, I simply called it brilliant. My one knock on the Switch version was technical, though, as the resolution and textures looked noticeably softer than what you’d get on PC. Sunset visitor is saying as much itself now, admitting the original Switch release was adapted with a range of technical compromises and that the move to Switch 2 finally lets the game be played as intended. Given how much of the storytelling leans on the game’s stark, surreal imagery, the Switch 2 upgrade might beg another playthrough.

If you’ve never played it, 1000xRESIST casts you as Watcher, serving the ALLMOTHER in a far future where an alien-spread disease has pushed humanity’s survivors underground, and the less you know beyond that, the better. The game won a Peabody Award among numerous other accolades, originally launched on Switch and PC on May 9, 2024, and made its way to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and Game Pass last November. I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting more people to play it, especially when it crossed 100,000 copies sold, so I’m happy to see it get another shot at a new audience.

The Switch 2 Edition will be 40 percent off on the eShop during launch week, and existing Switch owners can upgrade for free through a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack, though the studio notes availability and pricing details can vary by eShop region. As for sunset visitor, the studio is already working on its next game, Prove You’re Human, which we covered earlier this year. The full playthrough runs about ten hours, so a Thursday launch leaves the whole weekend to see why I haven’t stopped talking about this one.
