In case you forgot, there’s a new mainline Final Fantasy game releasing next week on June 22. It’s called Final Fantasy XVI and it’s from the team behind Final Fantasy XIV, Creative Business Unit III. The game currently has a demo available, so you can experience the first two hours or so. Progress from playing the Prologue will carry over if you choose to purchase the game when it launches.
The latest trailer appears to showcase the PlayStation 5 console’s capabilities more than the game itself, but it’s worth watching just for the music alone — Soken has really outdone himself this time around, but it seems like we say that after every Final Fantasy XIV expansion. After spending time with the demo, we believe Final Fantasy XVI is shaping up to be one of the best Final Fantasy games ever, if it can maintain the level of storytelling, writing, and action as the first two hours. It’s a big ask, but if there’s any team that can pull it off based on their track record, it’s Naoki Yoshida’s group.
