The long awaited sequel to Alan Wake finally has a release date: October 17, 2023. It was announced during today’s PlayStation Showcase along with a new gameplay reveal trailer that introduces co-leading protagonist, Saga Anderson (played by Melanie Liburd). Anderson is an accomplished FBI agent who has a reputation for solving impossible cases. She arrives to investigate murders in the small community of Bright Falls in the Pacific Northwest. But her case spirals into a nightmare after she discovers pages of a horror story that starts to come true. Anderson begins to question how it may be connected to missing writer Alan Wake.
The sequel will push players into a psychological horror story from the perspective of two playable characters. It’s being built on Remedy Entertainment’s proprietary Northlight engine and not Unreal Engine 5, which is what some media outlets are presuming due to the Epic Games Store exclusivity at launch.
“Alan Wake 2 is a deep, layered story with surprises buried inside it, waiting to be discovered,” said Sam Lake, creative director and lead writer of Alan Wake 2. “I keep catching myself smiling when I think about the absolutely insane sequences we have dreamed up for the game. I’m amazed no one has stopped us along the way.”
Alan Wake 2 is set to be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
