Konami has announced Super Bomberman R 2’s release dates, with the physical copy available September 12 and the digital versions going live a day later, on September 13. The game will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. The game arrives as the Bomberman franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

The latest entry in the storied franchise will deliver an all-new story and an all-new battle mode called Castle. Of course, many of the iconic game modes we’ve known for years will make their return as well. The new Castle mode introduces new attack and defend gameplay to the series and promises to deliver a fresh way to play in online battles. In the mode, teams will be split into one attack side with 15 players and one castle side, a single player who will be defending the treasure chests placed around the stage on their own. If that sounds a bit unfair, it shouldn’t be since the defending player will have access to all sorts of traps, obstacles, and other gimmicks.

The game also adds a stage editor, where players can create battle stages for Castle mode. Any stage created in the stage editor can be shared online for other players to enjoy.
