Razer has announced the lightest mouse it has ever created, called the Viper Mini Signature Edition. Tipping the scales at just 49 grams, this gaming mouse features an ultra-durable magnesium-alloy exoskeleton filled with Razer’s gaming mouse technology. Before we take a closer look at the mouse itself, it’s going to boast an eye-watering $279.99 price tag as Razer is positioning it as an “ultra-high-end, hyper-lightweight wireless performance gaming mouse.”

To justify its cost, the Viper Mini Signature Edition is crafted from high-grade magnesium alloy using an injection molding technique to give it an exceptional weight-to-strength ratio. Charlie Bolton, head of industrial design at Razer, said that the team evaluated all sorts of materials including plastics, carbon fiber, and titanium before choosing magnesium alloy. After the injection-molded exoskeleton is created, it is CNC machined and polished to perfection. The shell undergoes passivation to reduce any susceptibility to corrosion. Afterwards, it’s painted and assembled.

Internally, the Viper Mini Signature Edition uses Razer’s Focus Pro 30K Optical Sensor and Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3, along with HyperPolling Wireless with true 4000 Hz wireless polling rates. It’s the fastest wireless gaming technology Razer has to offer. As for charging, it benefits from a 2C charging rate, allowing it to fully charge in under 90 minutes.

Each mouse comes with a pre-paired Razer HyperPolling Wireless Dongle, a set of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Mouse Feet, microfiber cleaning cloth, a pair of Razer Mouse Grip Tape sets, and two alcohol prep pads. Razer includes a three-year extended warranty.

“We set out to create the best lightweight performance gaming mouse. We went beyond our usual design process to look at material selection and alternate industrial designs to create an ultra-durable magnesium alloy exoskeleton chassis in the fan-favorite Viper Mini shape. As a result, the Viper Mini Signature Edition is just 49 grams light with no compromises, making it our lightest mouse ever.”
