Making a surprise debut at today’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Octopath Traveler 0 heads to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC on December 4, 2025. While it’s the third mainline entry after Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II, Octopath Traveler 0 actually borrows story elements and gameplay ideas from the mobile title Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. To be clear though, Octopath Traveler 0 is designed to be a full-fledged console and PC RPG experience, but it does take the story from the mobile release and reworks it to add new story content while streamlining the overall story for a more compelling experience. The new script introduces entirely new narrative elements with full voice acting, while gameplay adopts eight-character parties from the mobile title. Some players will be excited to hear there’s a town building element in Octopath Traveler 0, allowing them to customize their hometown as they work to restore it. Players will also get to create their own character, as they set off on a journey to build their destroyed hometown from nothing.

Set across the realm of Orsterra, Octopath Traveler 0’s story begins with the destruction of Wishvale, sending the hero on a journey of revenge. The game will feature over 30 characters to recruit as they assemble their parties of up to eight. Those who have played previous Octopath Travelers will be familiar with the Break and Boost combat system, but it’s more strategic than before by adding in shield points on enemies. By exploiting enemy weaknesses in combat, their shield points can be removed and once they’re at zero, they’re stunned and will take more damage for a turn. As for the eight-character parties, there’s both a vanguard and rearguard to control, each with their own Boost Points. Each turn, players can choose to command either the four heroes in the front or the four heroes in the back, further expanding possible strategies.

The standard edition costs $49.99, while a Collector’s Edition is available for $229.99 exclusively at the Square Enix store. There is also a Digital Deluxe Edition that includes a digital art book (PlayStation 4 version excluded) and a Deluxe Travel Provisions set with numerous in-game items.
