Circana has shared details on spending in the U.S. video game market in May 2025, which increased two percent compared to a year ago, totaling $3.7 billion. The more interesting news concerns the best-selling premium games for the month: Elden Ring Nightreign (review) tops the list, followed by DOOM: The Dark Ages (review). Neither really comes as a surprise since both were released in May, although Elden Ring Nightreign launched on May 30. Those two titles were followed by Forza Horizon 5, which is enjoying new life on PlayStation 5. Rounding out the top five for May are The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, putting four Microsoft-published titles in the top five.

Coming in sixth place was MLB: The Show 25, followed by two games that will forever be successful: Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V. Sports games continue to perform well, with NBA 2K25 coming in ninth and EA Sports FC 25 in tenth. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows may not have been the success Ubisoft needed, but it still ranks as the 11th best-selling game of May 2025. It’s followed by the surprising Star Wars Battlefront II and the fantastic Split Fiction (review). Taking the 14th spot is another Rockstar Games title, Red Dead Redemption 2, while F1 25 makes its debut in the 15th spot.

The final five games on the list include Helldivers 2, The Last of Us: Part II, WWE 2K25, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and PGA Tour 2K25. The Last of Us: Part II’s sales were likely bolstered by the second season of the HBO series. The game recently received an update that introduces a Chronological mode, letting players experience the story in a more linear fashion.
