The next expansion for Destiny 2 finally has a name: The Edge of Fate. The team at Bungie will share more details about the upcoming content for the next year of Destiny 2 at a reveal event on May 6, 2025 at 9:00 AM Pacific (12:00 PM Eastern). This is an important expansion for the game, as it will mark the start of a new narrative following the conclusion in Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Set to launch in summer 2025, The Edge of Fate was previously known as Codename Apollo in a roadmap shared by Bungie. That roadmap also confirmed expansions would be launched every six months or so, with Codename Behemoth slated for a winter 2025 release.
Along with the expansions, Bungie confirmed that seasonal content will be available to all players, with each expansion receiving two major updates. Seasonal updates include new and reprised activities, new gear and artifact mods, new modifiers and challenges, a new sandbox meta, and new events. Meanwhile, paid expansions are new stories, new locations, new missions, new weapons, new gear, and new raids and dungeons.
We’ll learn more about how Bungie is going to change up the Destiny 2 formula, which has grown a bit stale over the years. The company has undergone significant changes recently, with hundreds laid off in July 2024. It also recently revealed gameplay for its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, which is set to launch on September 23.
