Closing off today’s State of Play, Housemarque introduced its upcoming title, Saros. Heading to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026, Saros is touted as the ultimate evolution of the developer’s gameplay-first experience. Today’s cinematic announcement trailer set the stage for the new title, which is a new IP from the developer. Saros tells the story of a lost off-world colony on Carcosa, where players will take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer searching for someone. Housemarque stated its goal is to create an emotional and powerful character study exploring the cost of creating a new future.
Playing Arjun is Rahul Kohli, known for his roles in Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher; however, he won’t be alone on Carcosa. Unfortunately, that’s all Housemarque is willing to share at the moment, but it did promise it will reveal more of its ensemble cast at a later date.
While we haven’t seen gameplay yet, the team mentioned that a key distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression, making every death valuable. Upon dying, players will face a changed world; however, in Saros, they can choose and permanently upgrade their loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades. It features a similar meta-progression system found in many current roguelite games.
We will have to wait until later this year for our first look at extended gameplay. In the meantime, check out Returnal if you haven’t already. It’s a brilliant experience and provides a good understanding of what to expect from Saros.
