The hit game Phasmophobia, which entered Early Access on PC in September 2020, has shared its roadmap for 2025 and beyond. For those who have never heard of Phasmophobia, it’s an online co-op psychological horror game where a team of four players uses ghost-hunting equipment to investigate paranormal activity, finding and recording evidence to sell to a ghost removal team. It’s one of the most entertaining co-op experiences we’ve ever had, especially if you’ve got friends who scare easily.
For this year, the team at Kinetic Games is hard at work on two major feature updates, new maps and reworks of old maps, and seasonal events. Next year, it’s teasing Horror 2.0, along with more map reworks, new maps, and seasonal events. The first of the major features launching in 2025 is the Chronicle update, which revamps the way players record evidence such as Photos and Videos. The Journal is getting a new Media tab that houses photos, videos, and new evidence gathered by a new piece of hunting equipment: the Sound Recorder. That won’t be all, though, as the team has a few more secrets being kept under wraps for the first major update of 2025.
The second planned major update for the year is the Player Character Overhaul. Phasmophobia will be updating character models and improving animations, along with adjusting the overall experience with the player’s character. Full player customization is being separated to an update in 2026, allowing the dev team to focus on the Horror 2.0 update.
As for new maps and reworks, Kinetic Games confirmed the game will get a new map this year, and it’ll be a small map, similar to houses. Players can expect future Phasmophobia maps to follow a similar design, as the team is able to release new maps more regularly than fewer larger maps. As for map reworks, players can look forward to changes to Bleasdale Farmhouse, Grafton Farmhouse, and 6 Tanglewood Drive. The updated Bleasdale Farmhouse will launch in March. Some of the changes to the maps include new assets and animations, a higher level of visual detail, and even a few layout changes.
Finally, for seasonal events, the team has taken the feedback it received from last year’s events and will continue the same themes for Halloween and winter, while introducing a new take on the Easter event. So in October, players will once again work on summoning the Blood Moon with the Blood Moon cult, while the winter event sees the return of Krampus. The goal is to keep the overall flow of the events similar, but incorporating changes based on feedback will make them feel fresh. These events will provide personal rewards, and players will have the chance to experience the event across more maps as they’ll rotate the selection on a weekly basis.
Phasmophobia is currently available in Early Access on PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
