PlayStation gamers who were looking forward to enjoying the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test this weekend are out of luck. The online service has been down for over half a day, and the company hasn’t shared any updates since 15 hours ago, when it posted on social media that it was aware some users might currently be experiencing issues with PSN. The PSN network service status page states some services are experiencing issues, but players are unable to access anything that requires an online connection. That includes free-to-play games ranging from Marvel Rivals to Wuthering Waves.
This is the longest outage PSN has had in years, but it doesn’t even come close to when the service was down for 23 days in April 2011. Back then, that outage was caused by a security breach that resulted in the leak of user data for 77 million subscribers. It’s unclear if something malicious is happening again, but PlayStation’s lack of communication doesn’t ease any concerns.
This outage will surely add fuel to the fire regarding whether gaming consoles should be so dependent on online services. For many PlayStation gamers, their consoles are essentially useless right now, especially since many games require an online connection. For Monster Hunter fans, hopefully, you have a gaming PC that’s up to snuff or an Xbox Series X|S available.
