After months of speculation and unofficial leaks, Nintendo has officially announced the successor to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2. Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn’t announced an official release date yet, but they did confirm that the Switch 2 will launch sometime in 2025. For even more unfortunate news, we’ll have to wait until April 2 to learn more about the new console, as that is when the Nintendo Direct for Nintendo Switch 2 will happen.

For those who have been following the leaked images and videos, the Switch 2’s first-look trailer doesn’t actually have any real surprises. We can see the console has grown in size compared to the original Switch, while the new Joy-Cons connect to the display in a different fashion. Nintendo also confirmed backward compatibility with both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, although certain games might not be supported or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.

In anticipation for the launch of the new console, Nintendo will be hosting Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events around the world. Based on these dates, we can speculate when the console might launch—for now, it’s looking like it will be sometime after June, at the earliest. If you’re interested in participating in a Nintendo Switch 2 Experience event, a Nintendo account will be required, with ticket registrations opening in the near future. Here is the schedule of Switch 2 Experience Events that has been announced so far, with all dates local:
