In late November, Palworld announced a collaboration with Terraria but details were pretty light. As we approach the end of the year, Palworld is getting a December update, which includes the addition of Meowmere from Terraria. It’s just a preview of what’s to come since the full collaboration between the two games will take place in 2025. For those unfamiliar with Terraria, Meowmere is an auto-swinging melee weapon that, when used, fires a projectile featuring a rainbow and shaped like a cat’s head. The weapon makes a meow sound when it’s swung, and that experience is being replicated in Palworld.
Palworld launched into Early Access in January 2024 and quickly set records with millions of players. Its collaboration with Terraria makes sense, even though Terraria is a 2D game. Both games appeal to a specific demographic of crafting survival players, although Terraria has a significantly larger player base, having sold over 58.7 million units as of June 2024.
Even though it’s not as popular as it was earlier this year, the Palworld franchise has grown and expanded through numerous partnerships. Sony and Aniplex are helping bring Palworld merchandise to life, while a mobile version of the game is being developed by the team at PUBG Studios. It’s not all good news for the game, as its developer, Pocketpair, is facing a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.
