Nintendo Switch sales continue to slow, as expected, with its successor on the horizon. Nintendo announced its recent financial results, confirming that unit sales for the entire Nintendo Switch family have dropped 31 percent year-over-year to 4.72 million units. Software sales have also decreased 27.6 percent year-over-year to 70.28 million units. Last year’s boost in sales is attributed to the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Nintendo also shared some sales numbers for recent releases on the Switch. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom sold 2.58 million units, while Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door moved 1.94 million units. Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD sold 1.57 million units, while 2.31 million more units of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold last quarter. Total software sales for the Switch have reached 1.306 billion units to date. For hardware sales, the standard Nintendo Switch has sold 94.7 million units, while the OLED model moved 26.83 million units. The Switch Lite is the lowest-selling model at 24.51 million units.
The company confirmed there is no change regarding the announcement of the Switch’s successor, which is expected by March 31, 2025. There are still several titles in the pipeline for the console, including the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which is expected to release in 2025. Other upcoming games include Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on January 16, 2025, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on March 20, 2025, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, scheduled for 2025.
