For those who have been patiently awaiting news of the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, it’s finally here. Sucker Punch announced Ghost of Yōtei during today’s State of Play, confirming its release in 2025. The game introduces a new Ghost named Atsu, meaning the title will feature a new protagonist, a new story, and a new region of Japan to explore. Unfortunately for Jin Sakai fans, it appears his story won’t continue anytime soon.

Atsu’s story takes place in 1603, over 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. The game is set in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei in the heart of Ezo, an area of Japan that is now known as Hokkaido. At the time, the area was outside the rule of Japan, filled with sprawling grasslands and snowy tundras. This means it isn’t populated by organized samurai clans as seen in Tsushima.

Sucker Punch also said that this is the company’s first game built from the ground up for PlayStation 5 and it intends to take advantage of the hardware. Considering how breathtaking Ghost of Tsushima was, even on the PlayStation 4, we can’t wait to see what the developers have in store with Ghost of Yōtei.
