Traditional roguelike Caves of Qud is finally exiting Early Access after nearly 10 years, and the team has posted an update as it prepares to launch 1.0. Over the last few months, Freehold Games has been hard at work polishing many of the game’s details, including rewriting descriptions for more than 2,000 objects, including the one seen above. Additionally, they have finished active ability descriptions, message log entries, sound effects, and has addressed some long-standing bug chains.

There’s still a bit of work to do, however, before Caves of Qud officially launches. The first major feature is the game’s tutorial, designed to teach the basics with the goal of helping new players get their footing. If you don’t have a lot of experience playing traditional roguelikes like Caves of Qud, the initial experience can be daunting. Hopefully, the tutorial helps new players acclimate to the game. Patreon backers and private testers will get access to the tutorial soon, while it’ll be available on a beta branch early next month.

The second major feature is Caves of Qud’s endgame. The team shared that it has had the outline for 15 years and is taking the task of crafting the ending very seriously. Unfortunately that’s all they shared, but more will come in due time.

While Caves of Qud doesn’t have a definitive release date yet, it is scheduled to launch sometime this year. That means the team’s Feature Fridays will end on September 20 until 1.0 launch. More importantly, the game’s price will increase on October 29 to $29.99 USD, along with the OST’s price to $9.99. This will be the final price for the game as it approaches 1.0. If you’ve been waiting to jump in, you should grab it now while it’s $17.99 after a 10% discount.
