PlayStation’s decision to shut down Concord shortly after its launch might be what gamers want to talk about, but the brand is looking forward to celebrating its 30th anniversary, which is a few months away. To celebrate the upcoming milestone, PlayStation has shared some of the promotions it plans to offer. Of course, PlayStation fans can look forward to Astro Bot’s release this Friday, currently sitting at a 94 on Metacritic.

To start, PlayStation is planning My First GT for the holiday season, which will be a free trial version of Gran Turismo 7. The release will include favorite cars, tracks, and race events to deliver the nostalgia of the original GT experience. My First GT will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this holiday season.

Sony Music is contributing to the 30th anniversary celebration with the release of several digital soundtracks from October through January. This marks the first time digital soundtracks of PlayStation franchises will be available on Spotify and they’ll also be available for purchase on other platforms including Amazon Music, Apple Music, and other participating music retailers. If you can’t wait until October, a specially curated PlayStation 30th Anniversary playlist is available starting today on Spotify.

Here are the soundtracks that will be available starting from October:

  • God of War
  • God of War II
  • God of War: Ghost of Sparta
  • Twisted Metal
  • Starhawk
  • Unit 13
PlayStation Shapes of Play products launch in December

Launching in December 2024 is Shapes of Play, a new collection of products from the team that designs PlayStation consoles. Three products have been announced and they’ll all be available exclusively through direct.playstation.com in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Benelux and preorders are available today. The first is Shapes of Play: Battle, which is a board game where players can challenge a friend to line up four different shapes of the same color on the board to win. Shapes of Play: Create is a set of magnetic blocks enthusiasts can position in any direction to create fun shapes, while Shapes of Play: Recharge delivers a new way to recharge between games—they look like stress balls, but PlayStation-inspired shapes.

On September 21 and 22, PlayStation is hosting a free online multiplayer weekend, so everyone can play online multiplayer games without needing a PlayStation Plus membership. The free online multiplayer weekend also coincides with a series of PlayStation 5 esports tournaments for titles such as NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive. Those who choose to compete have a chance to win a special 30th anniversary-themed avatar and other game-specific prizes. You can sign up at the Game Hub or the in-game PlayStation Tournaments button.

This is just some of the activities PlayStation has planned for its 30th anniversary and more announcements will come in the future.
